Betty La Fea (Ugly Betty) stars Ana Maria Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello. Its original version was a big hit in several countries, including in Latin America. In 2010, it entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful soap opera in history, having been broadcast in more than 180 countries, dubbed into 25 languages and having at least 28 adaptations around the world.
Beatriz Aurora Pinzón Solano, better known as Betty, is an unattractive but brilliant economist, who goes to work as a secretary in Ecomoda, a Colombian company dedicated to fashion design. Betty constantly faces the scorn of several of her superficial, discriminating Ecomoda coworkers, but she shows the new president, Armando Mendoza, that she is essential for the company and is quickly promoted to his assistant. She becomes Armando’s accomplice in a secret plan to save Ecomoda from financial ruin, but then this complicity turns into a loving relationship.
